Bird diversity in Setiu wetlands, Terengganu, Peninsular Malaysia

Abstract


Previous studies had recorded nearly half of the overall bird species in Malaysia can be found in Terengganu which includes native species and migratory species. Present study was conducted in the Setiu Wetlands, specifically at Kampung Mangkuk, Kampung
Fikri and Pengkalan Gelap. The aims of this study were to identify and update the current bird species found in Setiu Wetlands. Our survey recorded a total of 50 species of birds identified from 26 families. Results indicated that Setiu Wetland is potential to be developed as ecotourism area for bird watching and the locals are able to generate income from the
suggested industry.
