Stream fishes of West Ipoh, Perak, Peninsular Malaysia

Abstract


A fish survey was undertaken in the upper section of Kinta Valley in Perak on November 2015. A total of 25 species of freshwater fish belonging to 6 orders and 14 families were recorded. Cypriniformes dominated the fish community in the area by approximately 77% from the total species listed. Copper mahseer (Neolissochilus hendersoni) was the most abundant species occurred. All species are native to Peninsular Malaysia except the Mozambique tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus), Guppy (Poecilia reticulata), and Sailfin catfish (Pterygoplicthys pardalis).
